Today, Cris and I were given the daunting task of "Decorate this boring trailer, and make it look good."
Cris' work - Teatro de Artes - was in the Seguin Christmas Parade today. Parents were supposed to help us. People with more artistic know-how than us were supposed to be in charge. Instead, everyone who knew what to do with a trailer full of hay fell through, and Cris and I were left to do it ourselves. After much worrying that we would be sending kids down the road with construction paper-covered hay. .. . we ended up kicking ass.
All the colorful things we pulled out of storage came together, the kids looked beautiful - and a sombrero topped Santa pinata was the cherry on top. The parade was really fun. Today, this small town felt huge. Thousands of people packed into a mile strip, and we saw all 10 people we know as we waved through town. After all the mad rush and stress to decorate this trailor, it was really rewarding to see how happy parents were, seeing their kids be part of such an important, traditional event in this town. One mother ran two blocks with our float, yelling and waving at her boy. This was big time for Seguin, Macy's parade style. In the end, we decided we are going to run a trailer decorating business, and are currently open for orders.
After the parade, we met the roommates, and headed to Wassail Fest in New Braunfels. . . a cider sampling street festival. A bunch of cider heads try for best wassail (German for spiced cider). Two neihboring towns, two town squares packed with thousands of people, two huge, Texas-sized Christmas events. No matter how small your Texas town may feel, the events go all out on a Texas scale.
A very Christmas day, topped off with delicious, German, rum cider. Happy December!
