Macklemore
Champagne Champagne
When you ask people outside of Washington about Seattle rap, they always go to Sir Mix-A-Lot. But since he put the northwest on the map there have been a number of skilled MC's and producers that have come out of the Emerald city and the NorthWest. In the last 10 years, the Blue Scholars have been one of many hip hop groups that have made Seattle a hip hop hot spot. Seattle's vibe with hip hop does not follow the trends of other regions in the US. They have definitely created their own sound and level of consciousness, and by sticking to these philosophies they are making waves in the music world. Everybody still loves a party song about gettin' the girls and the bling bling. And if that's what you like, Seattle also has that. Tonight, as I am writing this post, the doors are opening up to the Bowery Ballroom in New York City where Macklemore, along with Champagne Champagne and Xperience, will be representing the NorthWest to a sold out audience.
It’s funny how a move across the country has drawn me closer to the music coming from home. Since being in Texas, I don’t know if it’s my sense of wanting to represent the NorthWest and where I’m from, but I’ve been trying to listen to as much Seattle music as I can. The only two shows we’ve been to here in Texas are bands from Seattle. The first was an ACL live taping of the Head and the Heart, and then Macklemore. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the NorthWest music scene, you should. A shout out to my homie A-Uno and the Steelo Crew. I’m still waitin’ for that bus ride.
